Who we are...
Created by congress in 1989, the Counterdrug Program provides law enforcement narcotics support and is executed by the governors of each of the states and territories. The Counterdrug Program supports the strategic goals of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). The North Carolina National Guard has been dedicated to providing law enforcement support to local agencies and community based organizations for decades, bridging the gap between Department of War (DoW) and non-DoW institutions in the fight against illicit drugs. The North Carolina Counterdrug Program is comprised for Soldiers and Airmen, most of whom are combat veterans, with unique military skills and specialized equipment that enhances law enforcement’s capability to anticipate, deter, and eliminate threats to our community that are the result of illicit drug activities.
Our Mission
The North Carolina Counterdrug Program conducts a full spectrum campaign providing direct narcotics support to military, law enforcement, and community based counterdrug operations at all levels of government. By supporting our local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies through investigative case analyst, ground & aerial reconnaissance, and community based prevention efforts, we are able to prevent illicit drugs from being imported, manufactured, distributed, and used within our state.
Protecting Our Community
Although the Counterdrug Program is federally funded, the Soldiers and Airmen within the program are all National Guardsmen under the control of North Carolina. As Guardsmen, we are “Citizen Soldiers,” your fellow neighbors. The talented Soldiers and Airmen who live among various communities throughout the state want the same thing you do… a safer community. Our personnel are experts in long-range observation, information preparation for criminal investigations, aviation operations, and strategic planning. We are passionate about using our unique military skills to help support our local communities with drug interdiction through direct law enforcement narcotics support and drug prevention through partnerships with community based organizations.
